SES responds to flood damage across Perth

More than 16 SES units and over 60 trained SES volunteers including members from the Regional Operations Support Section turned out to assist the community when heavy rain lashed the metropolitan and great southern regions. The Metropolitan SES recieved 76 calls for help as the storm crossed just before 10pm for flooding and minor damage to roofs.

Search for Thornlie woman

A Thornlie woman reported missing by family sparked a search by police and SES volunteers including members of the Regional Operations Section who turned out with the mobile Incident Control Vehicle. An operations centre on wheels, the ICV helps controllers to coordinate incidents and emergencies such as land search.

Residents helped after severe storms

SES volunteers responded to 49 calls for assistance after a severe storm crossed Perth. With the storm front expected mid afternoon, regional operations support section volunteers staffed the "bunker" a purpose built operations centre designed to coordinate SES resources in the metropolitan area.

SES on high alert

Regional Operations Support Section volunteers were placed on high alert after the BOM issued a Severe Weather Warning. Whilst there was severe storm activity throughout the metropolitan area, the were no reports of damage.

SES Air Observers look for missing sailor

SES Air Observers from the Regional Operations Support Section and metropolitan SES units were called to help after an alarm was raised that a man had fallen overboard off Rottnest Island. SES Volunteers undertake many hours training to qualify to become Air Search Observers in order to help at emergencies.

West Australian’s recognise the hard work of the State Emergency Service (SES) as part of National SES Week held nationally in early November.
The week aims to raise awareness about the important role SES volunteers’ play in the community and acknowledge the many families, friends and employers who support SES volunteers.
The week includes Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW) when people of WA are encouraged to wear orange to show their support for the SES

Missing Coolbellup man found

State Emergency Service volunteers spent the evening scouring the Coolbellup area after an 83 year old man was reported missing by family members. The Metropolitan Incident Control Vehicle (ICV) was sent out to support local search teams. At approximately 12.30am the man who suffers from dementia was found by a local shop keeper who recognised the missing person from posters circulated earlier in the night.

Storm threat puts volunteers on standby

Volunteers and career staff manned the Regional Operations Centre in response to a severe storm warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology. Four volunteers from the Regional Operations Support Section monitored a number of fronts as they passed through the metropolitan area. Volunteers indicated that it had been a relatively quiet period with little report of damage in the metropolitan area.

Operations Volunteers help with storm response
Wednesday 27th - 29th July
State Emergency service volunteers from the metropolitan regional operations centre were again put on high alert after the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning. From 6pm on Wednesday evening (27/7) volunteers joined FESA career staff in preparation for a number of cold fronts expecting to cross the coast. Local SES units attended to over 50 requests for assistance with more than twenty operations centre volunteers working hard behind the scenes supporting local teams for over thirty six hours.

State Emergency Service Volunteers again turned out to assist the community as a severe storm swept through the metropolitan area.
Ten personnel including five from the Regional Operations Section volunteers commenced staffing the Metro Operations Centre at 3am in preparation for a number of fronts expected to cross the coast, with the main front at 10am. The Operations Centre was supported by an additional twenty Regional Operations volunteers placed on standby.
The Operations Centre tasked forty nine jobs to nine local SES units with minor flooding and structural damaged reported.

Heavy rain swings operations centre into action

Heavy rain throughout the metropolitan area again caused State Emergency Service Operations Centre volunteers to swing into action.
More than 54mm of rain had fallen in Perth since 6pm, causing flash flooding in several suburbs. The State Emergency Service recieved 127 calls for assistance and several homes suffered minor roof damage while others were flooded.
South Perth Community Hospital also suffered roof damage.

North West Vessel Puts SES Air Observers on Standby

A Regional Operations Support Section volunteer was placed on Standby to assist in the search for a missing vessel reported in the States north west.
SES volunteers from throughout the state train as Air Search Observers to assist in the location of lost or missing craft. Coordinated by AMSAR (Australian Martime Search and Rescue) search aircraft were due to deploy at 0600 on Friday 24th of June however the vessel was finally located by the Royal Australian Navy.

Incident Control Vehicle sent to Search north of Joondalup

Operations Centre volunteers were again sent to support teams searching for a missing person north of Joondalup. Volunteers managing the SES Incident Command Vehicle travelled for an hour and arrived at the search site at 3pm when the crew was advised that the missing person had just been found.

Operations Centre Volunteers Turn Out for Land Search

Operations Centre Volunteers turned out with the sections Metropolitan Incident Command Vehicle (ICV) after a report for a missing male in Aubin Grove south of Perth. Four Operations Centre volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the day, monitoring the movements of SES land search teams and undertaking specific operations centre tasks, such as map marking, resource coordination and logisitics and communications.
As State Emergency Service volunteers stood down for the night, reports of a missing 11 year old child placed the Incident Command Vehicle on standby, thankfully the child had been found within half an hour and no further action was required.

Tasking: Monitoring Requests for assistance
Operations Centre volunteers closely monitored a severe storm as it approached the metropolitan area. Volunteers and career staff opened the Metropolitan ROC in the early evening on Sunday, asertaining resource availability throughout the metro area. Luckliy there was very little damage with only 13 calls for assistance recieved by members of the community. Operations Centre volunteers stood down in the early hours of Monday morning.
